The Department of Physical Therapy (PT), College of Health Sciences (CHS) at the University of Kentucky (UK) is currently accepting applications for a full-time 11-month appointment, non- tenure-eligible faculty member at rank determined by qualifications in the Clinical Title Series, to begin on or before May 1, 2024. This position will be primarily located at the UK campus at the Center of Excellence in Rural Health (CERH) in Hazard, KY.
Primary duties of this position include teaching in the relevant content areas of clinical expertise, building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external clinical constituents, participating in or leading community / rural health initiatives, and mentoring students in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program. The position requires active engagement with other faculty and staff in the Center of Excellence in Rural Health. Approximate distribution of effort will be 60-80% teaching, 5-15% scholarly activity, 5-15% service (including clinical service) and 2-5% professional development. Teaching efforts will focus on anatomical foundations of practice, including cadaveric dissection and clinical skill development. Administrative effort may be added based on skills and department needs.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in clinical practice and service / outreach activities with an emphasis and passion in rural health settings, desire to develop clinical and anatomical teaching skillset, and endeavors to develop faculty/student pro-bono clinical services with the CERH. Participation in scholarly activities is expected and supported, along with university, community, and professional service activities.
The UK physical therapy program has been educating physical therapists since 1967. The program offers a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree on two campus locations which includes the Lexington campus and the Center of Excellence in Rural Health (CERH) in Hazard, Kentucky. Both campuses afford opportunities for close interaction with faculty, serving local communities, conducting research, and engaging in clinical practice. The CERH has additional unique opportunities for enhancing services in rural communities, and strong potential for development of clinical outreach, partnered practice, and pro-bono clinical opportunities. Of the 66 students admitted to each class, 18 students are in the CERH cohort. This position will hold primary responsibilities at the CERH campus.
The UK DPT faculty is comprised of numerous physical therapists with post professional doctoral training who are involved in clinical, bench, and educational research, as well as clinical faculty involved in delivery of patient care services. The PT faculty are national experts devoted to teaching, research, clinical practice, and service. Due to our additional presence in the PhD program in rehabilitation science, research laboratories, and UK Healthcare system, our research portfolio is diverse and places a high value on translational and interdisciplinary science.

Required Qualifications:
- Degree in physical therapy with a post-professional academic doctoral degree or a clinical Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree with identified area of contemporary expertise
- Current licensure in physical therapy in Kentucky or
Desired Skills:
- Experience in multiple physical therapy settings
- Teaching experience in a physical therapy program
- Experience as a clinical instructor for DPT students
- Board certification from the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialists
- Experience in pro-bono clinical services
- Ability to conduct scholarly work
- Experience in professional presentations or publications
- Demonstrated experience interacting effectively with diverse groups of people
