Position Description:
This position is responsible for the administration and support of the enterprise Business Intelligence reporting tools.These duties include the creation and oversight of the Clarity data model foundational structures used in the development of Business Intelligence content, promotion management between Business Intelligence environments, and the administration of tool security. Specific job duties and tasks include:
Data Analysis, Migration and Management:
- Create and modify Clarity or SSIS ETL jobs as needed, monitor ETL in the console or Job Activity monitor daily, and troubleshoot ETL issues.
- Create and execute scripts against the database to add/alter database objects as needed to the database and ETL scripts.
- Validate changes made to the BOE universes during all stages of the development lifecycle to ensure that they meet the specifications and ensure data integrity.
- Ensure the BOE universes conform to BI business standards for performance and security.
- Utilize SQL tools to optimize queries for Business Intelligence developers as needed.
- Act as Clarity and BOE database knowledge experts.
- Utilize the BOE SDK to query the BOE database structure to create and maintain an up to date reporting database of UIHC BOE objects.
- Analysis of end user requirements and the ability to translate the business need\data model into the universe structure
- Working knowledge of and experience with multiple subject areas of the Clarity\Caboodle data model.
- Create and maintain universe documentation.
- Configure, implement, and support BI integration within Epic Hyperspace.
- Understand and utilize Clarity toolset for creating datalink executions for database validation, quality metrics population, and updating Chronicles items.
- Perform end to end testing of Business Objects Launchpad and CMC applications due to new versions and patches.
- Implement Epic-released universes for Clarity and Caboodle.
- Perform upgrade tasks during quarterly and release-based upgrades.
- Create and maintain BOE object backups.
- Work with report developers and end users to resolve support and technical questions.
- Configure and support Business Objects version management.
- Perform universe upgrades in accordance with Epic system upgrades and data model changes.
- Create active directory and BOE groups and assign security levels appropriately within the BOE application.
- Promotion of BI content among environments using the promotion management server. Create and maintain promotion jobs.
- Ensure that best practices are met for job scheduling.
- Participate in projects as assigned, and work with team members across the organization to deliver project goals.
- Participate in BOE/Clarity/Universe user group meetings.
- Suggest technical innovations that may offer performance and/or data access improvements over the current model.
- Provides technical information, guidance and training to junior staff members, as assigned.
- Actively participate in the governance of BI by ensuring that all universes meet the UIHC standards for formatting, naming conventions, and ensuring that it includes the correct information. Perform reviews of universes and reports prior to promotion.
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Science (MIS), or related field, and a minimum of five years progressive experience working directly with relational database systems using SQL and SQL procedural languages; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience (e.g., Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Science (MIS), or related field, and a minimum of two years progressive experience working directly with relational database systems using SQL and SQL procedural languages). Qualifying experience must include:
- Ability to interpret query execution plans in order to identify opportunities for improved performance in a very high-volume database environment.
- Extensive application development experience gained through working with Clarity database tools.
- Extensive experience with Microsoft SQL Server.
- Experience interpreting, modifying and creating complex custom database stored procedures and functions.
- Extensive experience with Epic healthcare modules, SQL Server database tools, and Caboodle analytic platforms.
- Extensive experience with SQL Server Management Studio 2012/2014 and writing ETL integrations with SSIS or similar tools.
- Extensive experience with Business Objects administration and configuration of reporting tools (Xi4.0/4.1).
- Broad knowledge of development of BOE content including WEBI, Universes, and Crystal Reports.
- Ability to utilize Epic reporting infrastructure to deliver clinical reporting content.
- Ability to research and troubleshoot Business Objects issues for other Business Intelligence developers.
