The Sports Clerk’s primary responsibility is to collect high school sports scores and input them into our system for publication in digital and print products. The sport clerk also will report one story per week as time allows, primarily on high school sports. This individual must be able to work efficiently and independently. Scores generally are collected from 9:30 to 10:30 p.m.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for collecting high school sports scores through email, social media and occasional phone calls.
- Must learn the applicable portions of our content management systems to get the scores into our digital and print publications.
- Should have reporting and writing skills to produce game stories and feature stories on high school sports.
- Meet performance standards on a consistent basis.
- Adhere to all company and departmental safety policies and procedures.
EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- Four-year college degree in applicable field, preferably in journalism or
- In pursuit of a degree in applicable field, preferably in journalism.
. ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Keen grammar, spelling and punctuation as well as other journalistic skills.
- Solid written and verbal communications skills with the ability to edit stories.
- Highly ethical in story-telling.
- Sound interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and follow up.
- Proven ability to follow established procedures.
- Highly self-motivated; ability to work with limited supervision of day-to day activities.
- Ability to effectively meet daily deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven ability to present a professional and polished image for the company exhibited through dress, speech, behavior, action and communication.
