Upstate Medical University is looking for a Center for International Health Psychologist to join their dynamic team of expert professionals.

SUNY Upstate Medical University is seeking a psychologist to join a multidisciplinary health care team serving newly resettled refugees. Embedded within the Center for International Health at SUNY Upstate, the psychologist will work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, social workers, health navigators and others to address the physical and mental health needs of refugee adults, children and families. The initial focus of this position is on Afghan refugees who have survived combat and recently resettled to Syracuse (within the past 2 years), helping them to support a healthy transition to a new country, new culture, and new health care system. While some of the care provided to refugees may be delivered through traditional in-clinic health and mental health visits, a primary goal during the pilot phase of this program is to work with the refugee population and other community service providers to develop novel ways of addressing the biopsychosocial needs of this vulnerable group. The psychologist will help to develop and implement screening protocols for identifying health and mental health needs, social determinants of health, and barriers to needed care. Data from this pilot program will be used to develop a broader and sustainable program supporting the mental health needs of a highly diverse refugee population in Central New York.

 Job#77233 Ph.D. or Psy.D. and NYS license (or eligible) Psychologist required but must receive license within 1 year of employment. One-year post-doctoral experience in a clinical setting. Experience working with refugee patients (Adult & Child) strongly preferred.
