The Merced Irrigation District (MID), located in California’s agriculturally-rich Central Valley, is the leading provider of clean, affordable irrigation water for its 2,200 growers. The District is also the 25th largest public utility in the State, supplying electric service to commercial, industrial and residential customers in Eastern Merced County. The District also owns Lake McClure and Lake McSwain and operates five recreation areas adjacent to these facilities. Lake McClure, on the Merced River, is formed by New Exchequer Dam, a rock filled dam with a reinforced concrete face. At the base of the dam is a hydroelectric generation facility with a capacity of 94.5 MW of power. MID is within two hours of San Francisco, Sacramento, Monterey and Yosemite.Under general direction, position will exercise considerable amount of decision making regarding the manipulation of data, and will guide the department regarding GIS matters. Use and determines uses for GIS software, AutoCAD software, hardware, network and database organizations and recommends changes to maximize efficiencies for better service to our departmental GIS users. Position requires the exercise of judgment and requires specialized professional knowledge of computers, databases, GIS and AutoCAD systems and will support the department strategic plan, goals and management decisions. Qualifications include two (2) years of college with substantial course work in engineering to include drafting computer aided design, basic electrical theory and mathematics at the trigonometry level. Three (3) years Designer/Drafting experience with demonstrated history of completing projects of increasing complexity; proven system development/integration and project management skills. Three (3) years of responsible experience utilizing GIS systems, programming databases, establishing and maintaining multiple GIS systems and applying associated software. Knowledge of the principles, practices, terminology and trends in the geographic information systems usage and modern land based mapping application theory, knowledge of applications and ability to use computer operating systems, and various software programs including network software, current trends and developments in the field of GIS and computer technology.
